Can a passenger's weight damage seat heaters?

Asked by Hopefawn Nov 27, 2017 at 09:49 AM about the 2009 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L

Question type: General

Is there a (suggested) weight limit for the seat heater in my 2009 Accord? I was told that very heavy passengers may damage the heating coils or elements in seats.

The max interior load for your car is 850 LBS.. and yes I would say very heavy passengers will damage the heating coils or elements in seats, it just makes sense, wouldn't you say ?

Thank you for your quick response! Yes, I thought so. At what point should I limit a passengers' weight on one seat? (I have a couple of fairly large family members.)

I would say no more then 275 lbs, not its not safe as well...

"No more than 275 pounds"? No disrespect, but I disagree. I have owned many, many cars in the past that have had seat heaters in them and have never had an issue. In fact, I currently have a 2014 Tundra and a 2014 Camry XLE with seat heaters. Both cars have over 50k on them and I use those seats almost every single day due to back pain. I'm a NFL-lineman sized man, 6'7" 350, and I have NEVER had a single problem out of any of my cars. Unless 2009 Accord seats are weaker than 2007 Corvette seats (which I doubt), you should not have a problem. Of course, if they are plopping down into the seats instead of seating themselves in a normal manner, I could see that being an issue.

Seats wear out like everything else. The more weight, the faster the wearing out.
