Can I safely install a battery kill switch on my Nissan Pathfinder
Asked by Jan Aug 08, 2023 at 09:38 PM about the 2009 Nissan Pathfinder SE
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a parasitic battery drain on my Nissan
Pathfinder 4.0. I have check all of the fuses and the
alternator and I still have a drain. I figure a kill switch
will be the simplest solution. Right now every time I
turn off my key, I take my negative cable off. Any
advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
thank you.

That's just not practical , it could be the ignition switch it has to be diagnosed , You were on the right track with the milli volt draw you just have to do it correctly ,
Doing this will eventually cause computer troubles, everytime you disconnect main power your forcing the computer back to factory settings, it may one stop doing this and then you at the dealers mercy to bring everything back and that could mean a new computer. You need to find the draw, check the rear wiper, I have seen them have a draw cause they don't park properly.
Your computer relies on a constant flow if juice to function. By disconnecting the battery, the computer reverts to default settings and you lose everything in the memory, operational and personal settings. Electrical problems are difficult to fix for novices, and you should let a mechanic with that experience find the problem and fix it before you damage the computer and get a bill that's as much as the car's worth.
