My air conditioner stays on even with keys out of ignition?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

im 16 and purchased my first car, a 2009 chevy impala, two weeks ago. It's
fine so far. My only complain is that recently, when I get into my car, the AC
is on! This has only happened 3 times so far. The ac switch was not even on
any of the times and it immediately stops when I put my key in the ignition. I
am not sure what to do if I go outside one day to find out that the AC blew all
night and effected a major part of my car. Luckily, everytime it has happened
I return to my car within an hour to find it on.

When you say a/c is on, do you mean the blower inside the car is on, because unless the engine is running the compressor will not turn and give you cold air. The blower resistor is probably bad and creating this condition; or the a/c switch may need to be replaced. Unplug the fan control switch, if the blower keeps running, look under the dash, passenger side and look for the blower motor, find the resistor and check it, it probably has shorted out. If you don't know how to proceed, then get professional help, to avoid creating a bigger problem.
