Ignition (maybe)

I came to an appointment and my car was driving
fine...stopped it and tried to start it and my key
turns in the ignition but it won't start...I can start it
with remote start but my key wont engage

This was driving me nuts! A friend said: try pushing the shifter forward just a little. Ignition engaged, turned right over. I just got my '04 two days ago...loving it.
