what maintenance needs to be done on a 2008 prius

It's still a car, I'd check the pads, change the brake fluid, check the coolant, change the oil, plugs, coils, O2 sensors, power steering fluid, and if there are both a confirmed drain and fill plug, and you know specifically what fluid should be in there, change that too. Charge the "little" battery (it's not little compared to a 9V or a AA) all the way up. Check the coolant for the "big" (hybrid) battery cooling system. Check the tread depth of the tires. Check for every bulb operation, and maybe get familiar with headlight bulb changing procedures, and make sure you have a spare. Check the condition and pressure of the donut (good idea, right?). Check the shocks for leaks, check for ANY leaks really. Check to see the car isn't overheating, check to see the windows all roll up and down a few times without sticking or noise. Check to see your wipers aren't falling apart and don't leave streaks on the windshield. Check the washer fluid level. Check the air pressure in the tires. These are all things I'd check/replace before going thousands of miles, just good practice, these cars do last for a few miles from what I've seen.
