2008 Honda accord timing chain and other major repairs

Asked by GuruD4R3HP Jul 26, 2023 at 11:35 AM about the 2008 Honda Accord EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm going through repair records and it looks like the timing chain has never
been replaced!! The car is at 310,000 KM.
1) Can I expect this car to make it 400K?
2) What major repairs can I expect going forward and what do they cost?

As long as you don’t hear any timing chain clatter when it is initially started then it should be fine. Timing chains will last as long as the engine provided that are maintained properly. Yes it should make that mile mark and possibly more. My oldest son has an accord that is a 2001 and has over 650K miles on it, and nothing major has happened, just the normal stuff.

If you have a 4 cylinder, you have a timing chain. If it's a V6, it's a timing belt. I wouldn't expect a belt to last nearly that long, so I'll assume it's a four-banger. Timing chains are built to last the life of the engine, but you might have to do repairs due to failed tensioners and guides, or in extreme mileage, a stretched chain. If you rely on this car, have it checked by a mechanic at the next service.

If the under carriage is rotting out don't worry . If it's in good condition and has been maintained then have it done it's up to you . Do a compression test for an evaluation . The variable timing actuators can go bad no biggy , buy OEM honda parts /dorman or other QUALITY part . OEM dealer parts may not be readily available and mechanics may use something else .Good car other wise , parts can be expensive but in the long run it's worth it . GA's post will come up soon , Don't know why some have a problem
