It’s the starter and have the yellow wire that goes to the starter checked for corrosion.. Mine would start sometimes and wouldn’t other times.

Here’s your answer. I had exact same symptoms on 08 jeep commander 4.7 L V-8. My symptoms were: transmission over Tim displayed on dash, when vehicle would start the starter would drag, vehicle was overheating, AC would not blow cold, ultimately got to the point it would not start at all and just click. Replaced battery, tested starter , Checked all fuses, tested all relays. Found that there is a ground lead in the starter wire harness that must be connected. Connection point is at all filter housing. Total of two grounds at that position. Securing the ground in the starter cable harness eliminated all issues. AC blows cold, and no more overheating, starter no longer drags, vehicle starts every time. Check engine light is now off. Check all grounds on vehicle. Especially Block to chassis and main ground on starter cable harness. Never knew a ground lead could cause so many problems. Have fun I sure did
