Recalls on these cars have usually been taken care of years ago, but it never hurts to ask. If the dealer can't find the problem then its most likely something electrica / electronic rather than mechanical. Find a shop that specializes in automotive electrical systems and have them sort it out. It could be as simple as loose and corroded electrical connections. Its an old car and those things break down and a lot of technicians who work mostly on newer cars are not that good at finding those problems. Trust me, I know. I own 4 cars older than yours and most of the problems I have are at least partly caused by deteriorating electrical systems. Luckily I have a technician who is an electrical genius and is able to sort things out. Good luck with your car.
