Steering wheel hard to turn left.

Asked by Hammy Jun 04, 2018 at 04:16 PM about the 2008 Mercury Sable Premier Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Mercury Sable 08 has been giving me issues with the steering wheel. I
am almost unable to do 3 point turn because whenever i completely move
the steering wheel to the left or right it very hard to turn it back to standard
position plus the pump gives off a noise but only when i make these hard
turns. Normal turns i have no issues or noise. The car is not leaking i
checked multiple times. Idk where the belt is but all the belts seems to work
just fine. I can try the belt spray to see if that helps but car works fine on road
only gives issues when i turn a little harder.

Do i have to replace the rack or have someone look at it and try sea foam to
possibly fix the problem? I am very confused as this car has only be giving
me problems since i got it last year november.

If I was you I would try adding some Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak to power steering pump it not only stops leaks but renews the seals and valves in the rack and pinion.

It is still doing it from time to time? What should i consider next? I replaced my reservoir with lucas power steering and it has helped rather slightly than i expected. Does that mean i will need a new rack regardless of my efforts to potentially fix it temporarily.
