Car over heating

My car started over heating went out and got a thermostat put that in.now
there's no heat and it over heats in 5 to 10 mins as I'm driving my car down
the street I hear the thermostat clicking on and off what would be the
problem.

Do the fans come on when it gets hot ? What does the exhaust look like , is it white ? Is there goop under the oil fill cap ? Is your head gasket blown ?
