Coolant leak, visible on ground

Asked by Lisa Jun 28, 2018 at 08:49 AM about the 2005 GMC Yukon SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Past week have found coolant on ground
under vehicle. First time reservoir was
empty so made vehicle overheat. Filled it
back up and did very well didn’t see any
coolant on ground and well came out
today and there is a puddle of coolant
under vehicle but the reservoir is still full.
No visible leaks when you lay under vehicle
but you do see coolant on ground next day
but not always. Help need to figure out
what’s wrong since it is only vehicle I have

I have been having a coolant problem with mine as well. I've not had a puddle on the ground but the reservoir is not staying full and I smell coolant when the engine is hot. I'm going to try to replace the water pump and thermostat first because that's the cheapest way to start and I'll let you know if that fixes the problem. I have around 180K on my rig.
