I do beleive the spots are a "bad thing", On my LCD screen if you touch it (when it is on) the screen in that area goes black/distorted. To me it sounds like your screen has lived its life and it is time to replace it. But I would recommend that you go to a Stereo/audio/video specialty store and talk to/show them, they will be able to direct you to your best course os action. Best of luck.
