My 1990 Chevy Lumina the speedometor is going out not working the way it should in the morning it is cool outside then it begins to work again for a while what is going on?

When it warms up outside my
speedometor quits working

There's a cable that connects to it and makes it run (the cable spins). It just needs replacing. Should be a simple fix.
