Why does my Saab need maintenance after only 1,000 miles?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2006 Saab convertible late last fall with about 75,000 miles, from an
authorized Saab dealer. It looks to be in near perfect shape. (Literally owned by
a little old lady.)  The dealer said it had been thoroughly checked out and only
needed an oil change, which they did. It was rarely used over the winter (about
1,000 miles), but now the “Needs Maintenance”. (!) message has come on and
stayed on.  What kind of maintenance could it need after 1,000 miles?  Is there
a way to turn off the message without taking it to the dealer?

You would need to scan for the maintenance code. Odds are it is for the oil change. Maybe the dealer forgot to reset the reminder.

Here is how to reset, start the car, the Time for service message pops up, then press the CLR button on steering wheel and hold for at least 8 seconds, you will see clear the first 4 seconds, then service the last 4 seconds. Turn the ignition to off and then restart the car to see that the message is gone.
