Must the transmission gasket be replaced
with a fluid flush and refill?

Yes, but DON'T flush the transmission!! That usually opens up a can of worms!! Especially on an older model. If the transmission fluid is burned you can usually change the fluid and filter without a problem. But even then it can be risky. Flushing the transmission often cleans the transmission too much. Dirt and junk in there actually helps worn parts work better. With a squeaky clean transmission those worn parts have nothing to grab onto and work. So it causes problems. HTH. -Jim
