We had same the problem with our '90 Chev 1500 4x4 and it was the electronic ignition. It drove us crazy trying to figure it out for a year (we replaced all kinds of things, too), then we decided to take it to our mechanic neighbor's shop and he fixed it. Took him a couple tries to sort out the problem, but he replaced the electronic ignition on the second visit and it has run great ever since.

CatsInBlack - Can you be more specific as to what you replaced? The Ignition Coil? Ignition Control Module? Ignition Control Relay? The Distributor? So many things fall under the term "Ignition..." Thanks. I am fighting a similar issue on my 1990 K1500 5.7L AT.

My husband says he thinks the rotor shaft in the electronic ignition is what was bad, but we can check with our neighbor tomorrow to see exactly what all he did to finally get the problem solved. It's been awhile, but I suspect he's got some notes on it. The truck would stall after it was warmed up, we think, because the rotor shaft was cracked and the crack would open up as the truck warmed up.

OK, here's a more specific answer. I had my husband go by our neighbor's shop today and he did still have the notes on it. He replaced the distributor, and he said the shaft was loose and probably cracked. In the visit just prior to replacing the distributor, he replaced the EGR valve, but that didn't fix the stalling problem. I can't say that both, together, fixed the problem, but they did get replaced back-to-back with each other and after the distributor was replaced, problem solved. These repairs were made about 2 years ago and we haven't had a problem since--truck runs great.
