96 Chevy Silverado 5.7 Vortec Burning up Relays

So my 96 Silverado 1500 5.7 Vortec has been fine until couple months ago.
Stalled out twice and both times fuel pump relay was hot to touch. Replaced
both times and got maybe a week of no trouble until it stalled again. No
codes on reader. Fuel pressure held around 60 under load. Mechanic says it
the "Fuel pump module assembly" to the tune of a $600 replacement. Pump
is "pulling high amps" whatever that means. Shouldn't I be checking out
electrical solutions first before replacing the in-tank pump? What should I
begin testing? Appreciate any advice. Great truck, strong engine.

Fuel pump relay is suppose to be warm when touching it bc its constantly supplying fel pump current which can go up 7 or 9 amps... if amperage got too high from a restriction ud blow a fuse before damaging the relay... the fuel pump module assembly is just the plastic housing that drops in the tank which houses the pump itself and also contains the fuel level float
