Brake lights switch

Asked by Mike Jun 03, 2018 at 03:29 PM about the 1997 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab RWD

Question type: General

Brake lights go out after pressing the brake pedal past about
1/4 of the way down. All turn signals and other lights are
working on the tail. I've replaced the brake light switch, tail
light boards.

Maybe the brake switch is adjustable or the brake pedal? Check the connector for brake switch? You could even use a jumper wire to bypass the pedal--switch and wiring connector, if the brake lites work, what else could it be, but one of the issues in the first paragraph?

Brake lights work. That's not the problem. The problem is for whatever reason they go out after pressing the brake pedal more than 1/4 to half way. There is no adjustment on the switch. And it's pretty much impossible to get to the wiring above the switch.

Switch is mounted incorrectly, must line it up with brake pedal arm. It’s off to one side and slipping off at the point lights go off.
