What's wrong with the ignition?

Asked by Anthony Jan 10, 2015 at 10:26 PM about the 1992 Buick Roadmaster Sedan RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I was driving my car these past
two days, it would die out at red
lights. Today it did this and I put the
car in neutral then shut it off and
turned it over except this time there
was no starting it. The key isn't
grabbing and making it start. No
dash lights come on.

Get some WD40. It should have a little straw for pin-point spraying. Stick the straw inside the key opening (don't saturate) and work the key back and forth. If that fails to resolve the problem ... you may need a new tumblr

There's a lot of play. There is not sort of force as I turn the key? I honestly have the ignition and tumbler out, and see a part in the car that I turn yet nothing happens.

The tumbler engages a rotary switch ... make sure the switch is free to turn and the pins that engage the rotary sw are ok ...... and of course .... the plug in the harness is tight
