Changed the batteries in our keys, now the auto unlock does not work.

Asked by Mary_Franklin624 Aug 21, 2013 at 09:37 AM about the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country Touring LWB FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband changed the batteries in our keys and now the auto unlock buttons will
not work. He used the same type of battery and it only unlocked twice and then
stopped working. The lock features unlock if you are inside the 2006 Town and
Country mini van.

think perhaps you've gotten "NEW" old stock on the batteries...disassemble and test the battery....of course there are NO RETURNS on electrical goods, so get yourself some NEW batteries from a place that has a high-turnover of product----Amazon is hit-or-miss with these type of things...perhaps frys electronics?...the dealership?

The key fob may need to be reprogrammed / sycned to work properly. I would check your owners manual or the key was not reassymbled correctly.

that is mostly stored in the bcm or it could also be in the overhead settings, check above aka compass/trip meter. Otherwise use of the DRBIII from Chrysler will need to be recalibrated

New Batteries were checked and had full power before inserting. The keys start the vehicle with no problems. Having both sets in the vehicle running, using the other set, the doors will lock/unlock no problem. Both sets have been tested this way and work. Only out of the vehicle will the remotes not work.

Maybe the receiver is failing. This is a factory system right and not an aftermarket remote start add on?

Factory. Remotes did work before changing batteries. If both sets of keys were in vehicle and one was used to start vehicle, the other remote would work. The Magic Chrysler Faires arrived at some point and did whatever they do (like Gremlins). 3 days the remotes would not work with the vehicle off and now both of them do. I have no solution for the fix. We did nothing so I'll chalk this up to Magic.

I have a 2010 Town & Country my key fob stops working from time to time. The problem in my case the fob is not air tight and the round target like connections get a light film that does not allow good contact. Also make sure that all 4 contacts on the circuit board are making contact with the battery. When replacing battery you may of flattened one of the contacts. I just cleaned the contacts and the Fob is working fine. I also bought a Fob from Ebay for 14 dollars and put my old circuit board in the new fob because the small silver disks on the panel were coming off. Anyway these suggestions worked for me and i saved 300 bucks.

Key fobs BOTH stopped working to lock/unlock my 2005 T&C mini-van. Key still worked in the ignition. (is it the fob battery? NO. Both fobs stopped working. Does the dealer need to reprogram it? NO. It had already been updated.) Thinking it would be about $500 to replace the fobs, because the dealers won't tell me what's wrong with it without at least charging $150 to check... I found a work-around online with CarGurus, but now I cannot find the article. THE WORK AROUND: Turn off the engine. Pop the hood. Pull the cover off the fuse box on the right side of the engine compartment. Pull the IOD 20 fuse (look inside the fusebox lid you just pulled for the key to see which one it is), wait 30 seconds, put the fuse back in, put the cover back on, close the hood, and voila! The key fobs work! Temporarily. PART II: I finally got sick of doing this exercise perhaps every 2-3 weeks, and when I took the van to the dealer to REPLACE THE FAULTY HEADLAMP SWITCH WHICH IS UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY... they discovered that the HL switch was on the SAME CIRCUIT... so... they are thinking there may have been a miracle healing. Will bring it back in if the fobs fail again. Cost: ZERO DOLLARS.

1. Try pulling the IOD 20 fuse, wait 30 seconds, and put it back in. If that doesn’t work... 2.take it to the dealer and have them replace your headlamp switch (free) which is under extended warranty, if you also have to try twice to turn off your headlights after turning off the engine. The headlight switch and the fob is on the same circuit. If that doesn’t work... 3. Replace your BCM ( not free).

Replaced batteries, still not unlocking doors. Went to 3 different places, all 3 tested remote, everything works with tester, but still wouldn't unlock doors. There are manual push buttons on each sliding door, they work properly. Tried overhead buttons to open doors, they work properly. Remote just won't unlock doors or trunk. Need more info
