How to check a fuel pump relay on a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina Euro, 3.1 litre

We put a new fuel pump in about a week ago.  It still wasn't starting like it should, but would start.  I ran out of gas last night, put gas in it.  It started rite up.  Drove about 5 or 10 yards,  it died, and won't start.  It turns over.  But act's like it's not getting fire.  I turn the key on and off a few times, without turning over the engine.  And I hear the fuel pump engage, but not every time.  Can this be the fuel pump relay?  And how can I check the relay.

Take the relay off to perform the test, I’m going by memory here I think number 85 and 86 on the relay is the coil and you should have continuity on these terminals when you put a meter on it. Number 87 and 87A is the switch. If you put you meter on the number 30 terminal of the relay and number 87A this should be closed and you should continuity. If you put you meter on number 30 and 87 this is open and you should have no continuity.
