also has new plugs and wires
no smoke out the tail pipe and seems to be back firing out the throttle body, egr seems ok, but then again the motor will run fine without the egr
im thinking of putting in another new fuel pump, screen, fuel filter and ill try replacing the throttle body injectors too they are cheap
if anyone else had these symptoms with a 5.7 please advise what you did to fix it!! thanks :)

You haven't mentioned fuel pressure. Try testing the pressure. Maybe check the regulator built into the back of the throttle body, have had issues there.
can you replace the regulator on the tbi or is it built it

It's been awhile but I believe you can get the individual parts? Mine were usually just plugged. If you take it apart carefully you can salvage the gasket and re-assemble. Disconnecting the fuel lines are the worst part. A fuel pressure test gauge is a quick and cheap tool to check the fuel pressure. I've never bought parts for my TBI's (except for sensors) I have a few spare motors and just swap until it runs! I did try the holley TBI unit but I was not impressed. I will check quick and see what parts you can buy.

Yes you can get parts. If you like working on your own wheels the fuel gauge is handy. If not just take the reg apart the issue (if there is an issue) should be easy to see. Your local parts place should carry them. I found them on rockauto. Jegs also has a upgrade that makes the pressure adjustible.
I had the same problem and it was a bent push rod. Take the valve covers off and look it would be visible. I spent a fortune on mine and it was a 200 dollar fix.
I had the same issue with my 94 blazer sport. Changed everything. Filters, valves, sensors, hoses, distributor, plug wires, plugs, rebuilt the tbi, injectors, even the ecm. Turned out the prom went bad. Apparently, one of the times I was reading the codes I forgot to take the jump wire out of the diagnostic reader under the steering wheel before I started the engine all the way. Fried the prom. Bought a stage two super chip from summit racing and he started right up and has been running like a champ.
