Afraid to take car out as it might not start on 2nd or 3rd try.
Why does it start sometimes, and other times I get nothing. not even a sound when I turn the key?

check your battery connections, especially the ground. wouldn't hurt to have the battery load tested. could also be your starter.

I'll bet your battery is fine and so are your battery connections!! I'm guessing you have a bad or going bad ignition switch. Could be a bad neutral safety switch also. See if your car will start up fine when placed in neutral??? If it'll start up just fine all the time when placed in neutral, you've got a bad neutral safety switch!!
