I need to replace Rear Struts - What is the best replacement?

Asked by JGuffey Apr 18, 2015 at 10:00 AM about the 2006 Subaru Forester 2.5 X L.L. Bean Edition

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2006 Subaru Forester L.L.Bean Edition.  I went for a State Inspection and was informed it failed because the Passenger Side Rear Strut is Blown Out.  I am searching for what kind of strut is originally installed on this vehicle and what would be the best replacement strut?  Is it self-leveling?  If I replace with non-self-leveling will it cause any damage?  Are the struts Gas?  I am unable to find any clear answers . . . been searching the web for a few hours now.
