Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can anyone tell me what's the addiontional part on the rear shock for? It looks like an
additional cyclinder on the side of the shock. I was given a KYB  number 334344 (right
rear) and 334345 (left rear) this is for a 2006 forester . If any one can assist I would be
great full

Hi tony Many many thanks for your prompt reply. Let be see if I can describe it for you: On the rear shock of my car there is an additional cyclindrical attachment onto the body of the strut its about 8 inches long approximately. When you say "those shocks" are you referring specifically to the ones I gave the number of? I thank you again and I look foward to your response. Scoobysina

Like Tom said, the numbers you provided are struts not identical to what you have on your car. Somehow you have self leveling shocks if they look like this: ebay#: 261183579463 they're more expensive and not the same as the numbers you provided. I'm not even sure where to get them (in the USA anyway). You can swap to the non-self leveling only if you buy the springs rated for the non-self leveling struts. You can't just swap over the springs you have, sadly. here is another good spot of info: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/attachments/f70/1800d1150460 266-self-levelling-rear-supsension-self-leveling-suspension-xs- forester.jpg and if you search google for: self leveling struts 2006 subaru forester :you will find some good threads of info about them. That's where I found some of the above info for you. Good luck

Thank you Walth for you answer it's been very helpful. It would be useful to note that I am not from he US but the Caribbean, as such my car is not a us model which would make it very helpful to get parts which is at times very difficult for me to get here. The model of my vehicle is a sg5ek2e I don't know if you can point me in a direction for parts as I am also in the market for a head lamp washer and cap left side. Thank you again for your assistance

This is a really old post. You've been told that the cylinder on the side of the strut has to do with ABS and not self-leveling the car under different loads?
