Could replacing gas pump affect the gas gage indicator?

Asked by Equinox_2073 Feb 27, 2017 at 03:45 PM about the 2000 Jaguar S-TYPE 3.0L V6 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had my gas pump replaced and all of a sudden the gas gage never passed the middle (half tank). I tried to fill up but always shut up at half. I can hardly put in 7 gallons in a 16 gallons tank before it shut off.

Could replacing the fuel pump and assembly affect the fuel gauge, yes- although this is only the case when the wrong fuel pump assembly is used or if the old assembly was re-used with a new pump. Can it be fixed, yes- although that will result in re-doing the fuel pump again (yes, you can use the new pump, but the hanger assembly likely needs to be replaced as well.)
