Charging system / Gear

Asked by Erpe4554 Oct 27, 2020 at 02:15 PM about the 2007 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Ford Explorer and the check charging system light came om
yesterday. i managed to get the car home after it all the lights on the dash
went out and then everything went out and the car coasted into our driveway.
I went and replaced the battery they said that it was dead and then im still
getting the same error message abt the charging  system. After replacing the
battery the car wont shift into gear. You can hear it shift but it barely moves.
you can reeve up the engine and nothing in Drive or reverse. I put it in 3rd
and it moved forward. Any idea if the charging system is related to it not
going into gear? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Sounds like the symptoms of a failing ECM. Best to have is checked at a reliable shop and see what they tell you,Had this happen on my '06 Mountaineer a couple of months back. Check your alternator and serpentine belt before considering an ECM swap.

I’ve already replaced the battery and alternator and still the same thing. It will go into 1st, 2nd and 3rd but not drive or reverse.
