Check charging system light

Asked by Williab21 Aug 16, 2019 at 12:24 PM about the 2011 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The check charging system warning indicator is
coming on, I removed the alternator and had it
bench tested at local parts store and was told it
passed, while running and a multimeter connected
the voltage at the battery goes from 14.7 to 12.0V
randomly. It started about 3 weeks ago and it’s
becoming more consistent. I replaced the battery,
and both battery terminals, today I had it running
and had a multimeter connected and all the
warning lights went haywire and the dash lights
and radio kept going on and off? Could it be the
salty even though it tested good?

Yes it could but I would also check all connections for corrosion and tightness - especially the ground connections.

Checked all connections, replaced both terminal ends, replaced alternator and replaced battery current sensor on the negative cable. Light is still coming on!!!

I have an Autel scanner that I used, no codes found. Ford scan tool may be able to communicate with more modules than mine. My scan tool only communicates with the ECU
