i'm writing my own answer in hopes of helping someone else. There was a transmission place next to the place I'm getting my brakes done. They took my car out for about an hour with their machine and diagnosed transmission brushes and bearing. They said I did not need to do anything the car will not fail it won't break the transmission. The only down side is the check engine light will be on and I can't pass the california smog test. the charge to fix is $1300. There's an official smog next to the transmission place. They said don't turn on the AC, try to get the light off when I bring it in. If it passes the other tests my car will pass because they know the transmission shop owner.
