fresh oil and new filter, no knocking or strange noises to be heard, just comes on at idle
and goes off when accelerating

The oil is thinner when hot. The oil pump is going out or the oil pump screen is partially plugged.

its fixed turns out to be a faulty pressure switch i had just replaced
