2000 buick regal GS performance shift button not working

I push the performance shift button the light in dash comes on but nothing
changes. how do I fix what ever is wrong ... Module?

this is my 2nd GS and that is correct it does not hold the gear, therefore the performance shift is not active even when the light comes on from me pushing the button

so its not the button its what ever the button activates or a broke wire ... But where and what makes the tranny hold the gear longer
