Asked by David Sep 14, 2008 at 12:42 PM about the 2000 Volvo V70 SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ABS light comes on intermitantly during hot weathercausing cruise control to fail, never in cooler monthts. Brakes seem to work fine.  What is failing?  Can I replace it?

Check the wiring between the sensors and the computer. Sometimes, humidity installs itself in connectors between the wires and dry there causing malfunction. You have to cut out the connectors, weld the wires together and insulate them. That is if your brakes and abs sensors are ok.

I have a 2k v70 GLT. The ABS modules fail after some time. The solder doesnt make a good contact on several points on the board. It is a somewhat detailed DIY. You can removed the old one yourself with an E5 external torx bit (somewhat hard to find) and re-solder the joints. If you dont feel comfortable doing that, check out BBA-REMAN. That is who I used for my rebuilt module. Cost $100.00 dollars for an already repaired unit. Hit me back or check out VolvoSpeed.com or MatthewsVolvoSite.com for more info.

BTW, dont listen to the guy that mentions re-insulating wires...that witchcraft might work on his car, but not ours. No offense, guy...
