2006 trunk lid won't remain in open position

Asked by smashedfingers Jul 10, 2013 at 04:54 PM about the 2006 Hyundai Azera SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Yesterday the trunk lid worked fine.  Now it will not stay up, slams down at great risk to
any fingers in the vicinity.  I know there are strut/shock like mechanisms to hold it open
but would they both fail at once?  Any suggestions would be appreciated........

No. One may have failed long ago and you didn't notice it since the other one held the weight.

I would suggest replacing BOTH of those struts for the trunk at the same time....if one did fail..the other one had to bear the load/weight of the trunk lid by itself, so it might not be as sturdy at this point. Play it safe..
