Start engine, get acrid smelling exhaust fume. Tailpipe is black, engine feels
like it's running on 1 or 2 cylinders at idle ( less than 1000rpm), must feather
gas pedal to keep it going. Smoother running at higher rpm. Must feather gas
pedal up and down at 'idle speed', otherwise will stall out.

also, I should note that there are no check engine light on.

i think i would start with a tune up. maybe some injector cleaner i would use BG44k cleaner

I also forgot to mention that even though the Malibu 1998, it only ha 84,000 miles on it.

I have a 2008 Chevy malibu LTZ 4 2.4 L the rpm gauge will ping to 4,000 rpm after driving at highway speeds for 5 to 10 minutes.
