1998 Chevy G1500 Van (with rear condensor) AC only gets down to 55deg

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just took my van in to a dealer because the lowest A/C would go is 55deg.  They replaced the compressor, at a cost of $1000, and there is no change in the AC temp.  They are saying that's the lowest it can go because I have a rear condenser.  We tested when the outside temp was around 80 - 85 degrees.

Try cleaning the A.C condenser maybe clogged with dirt and bugs causing little to almost no air flow across the coils.

Thanks I will check that. Do you think the dealer's telling me that, because I have a rear A/C unit, the vent temp can't go any lower, is valid? I would think a vehicle, regardless of whether it a front condenser or both, front/rear condensers, should still cool the same.
