2000 Volkswagen Beetle 1.8L wont start

I have a 2000 vw beetle 1.8L that wont start. It makes a fast clicking sound an the dash lights blink. I thought it was the battery so I bought a new one an replaced it, that wasn't the problem. The alternator is good I had it tested. an the car stays running when u disconnect the battery terminals. So if its not the battery or alternator, what is causing my car not to start? would it be a fuse or relay? an how would I go about findin it?

Check the relay (under the driverside dash) to your starter and connection on your starter.
I just bought the battery an its drained. I have to jump my car to start it? so would a relay cause that also?

Actually, nevermind what I said earlier, I misunderstood that. If something's draining the battery, you have to find where the source is that's draining it like if there's anything left on, plugged up to your lighter port, door jam sensor, bad wiring, or grounded hot wire.

I have the same issue with both of my beetles. 2006 and 2000, on the drivers side the fuse box is right up next to the door. Common issues with these vehicles involve the radio fuse, because the radio in beetles powers more than the tunes. I have been periodically unplugging my radio fuse. (Fuse 42) It fires every time, give this a try.
