Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My friend owns an 2003 VW Jetta 1.8 turbo automatic.  When he has the AC on the vehicle will lose power.  Once he restarts it, it starts up with no problem.

Complete power? ? What does that mean? No it doesn't, but, go ahead and tell us anyway. Does it just stall the engine? If it does, you've got, more problems than just A/C.

I do not have an answer yet on whether the a/c is on or off. I will need to get back to you on that. Thank you so far.

How many miles are on your car? Could it be the AC compressor is just so frozen that it's too much stress on your engine and when it engages it just stalls? You really can't raise the idle speed up too much because you have an automatic transmission. I'm beginning to think your problems are with the compressor, has it ever been replaced?

Most of the older cars when they have battery issues like that its normal a bad compressor or the alternator is on its way out the door. My old 98 audi did that. when i pulled the alternator the brushes were on there last leg. have both checked to be sure. I do know for a fact that after a while the inner core of the alt will rust up so bad that it causes it to friction rub. My alt was original and it sat for a week and the alternator rusted and expanded into the walls causing it to not turn correctly.
