1999 chevy suburban 2500 4x4 z71 transmission

Asked by My99K2500 Sep 22, 2020 at 12:18 AM about the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K2500 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck sat for over a year. Charged
battery started right up. Drove to get
gas and stopped at auto parts store to
check fluids. Transmission fluid
appeared low. Added 1/2 quart. Went
to drive away, no forward gears.
Reverse fine. Put it in drive, wait a
moment, the rpm's lower like it's ready
to go. But no go. Transmission fluid is
pink, smells fine, slippery between my
fingers. How could topping off the
tfluid cause no forward only reverse.
When I shift into reverse, it's kind of a
hard shift. I read how one needs to
retrain the transmission after dead
battery. Is my transmission saveable?

I wonder if they make house calls. Lol. Thank you for responding. Almost relieved my aching pocketbook.

I might consider investing in an obd2 scanner with transmission code reader. Never know when it can come in handy. And some cost about the same. Thanks again, friend.

Thanks. I appreciate your recommendation. To be honest, I'm a girl. And if I can keep my money in my own pocket, I try to. I've been taken for a ride with BS diagnosis and charged $100 for it to find out it wasn't what they said it was (timing chain) . It was the distributor cap. Wah wah wah yes there are jerks out there especially in the auto repair field. . So I listen to my gut and use YouTube, ALOT. Just started using these forums and so far, I'm definitely saving the address. You guys ROCK!

Thank you so much. Your opinion and help is greatly appreciated. Are you in the Seattle area by chance? Just kidding. No but really, I may need someone that is willing to get a little dirty.
