98 vw jetta wolfsburg wont start

Recently had oil and trans fluid
changed. while doing this they
knocked off the speedo cable. they
put it back on. 2 days later it wouldn't
start I opened the hood and found a
ratchet on my selinoid whith a dark
mark on it. I've had the battery and
starter checked both ok. Ignition
switch was replaced last oct. You go
to start it it does nothing. lights. come
on strong.  But makes no sound when
you turn the key.Anyone have any
thoughts?

....so that's where it went....have left tools in people's cars unable to retrieve them before they checked out and paid up....expensive MAC mechanic's tools too~ so no I don't think they were sacrificing this tool in hopes of affecting some kind of hillbilly repair...just careless wrenchin' NOW we must make sure the battery is newer than five years old (at which time they have trouble accepting a charge)...and the connections are solid...pay special attention to the MAIN ground which needs to be scrubbed till shiny and the chassis too insuring a steady 300 cold cranking amp ability and to serve the ECU with about an amp....steady~....12V ground~

Its not in the fuel pump Is you push it and pop the clutch it starts. Also if it was in the ignition you wouldn't be able to push start it either would you ? The battery is only 2 yrs old but ill have it checked .
