Reverse and acceleration pedals

I test drove a 1996  2 door SL320 which I am interested in buying . I found the Reverse and Accelerator pedals
very hard . I really had to press hard for the vehicle to move both while reversing and accelerating . Is this normal
in Mercedes ?

Car needs to be serviced all the ball and socket and pivot point on the accelerator rods need to be be greased cable could be also at fault
