Problems starting a 2000 chevy malibu

Question type: General

If we let the car sit for a while, it will start up and
run, but after a while, it will die and won't start
again, or we start it up for a short time and then it
off for a couple of minutes and we do that 4 or 5
times and then it doesn't want to start, we think it's
the alternator or part of the fuel system because
the car had a code for the fuel purge system, but
the battery won't charge, and we don't know wat
the problem is, could someone possibly help out

Start with a load test of the battery and see what the alternator is putting out. If either are bad replace and clean terminals. The purge valve can be cleaned however make sure the hoses are not cracked.or loose. Check for any stored codes. The throttle body might be due for a cleaning as well as a tune up including new wires and plugs. Good Luck!
