why does check engine light come on?

the check engine light comes on when i'm sitting at a light or sitting in the car
for more than a few minutes when the ac is on. anytime i have the car checked
out the mechanic says there's no problem. the car even shakes alittle when i
am backing out of a spot most of the time. could there be a mechanical issue
the computer isn't picking up pr something?

The CEL means there are trouble codes waiting to be read. Your local auto parts store can read them for you.
