Is my truck knocking or is it the harmonic balancer

Asked by Colby May 09, 2016 at 09:11 PM about the 2002 Dodge RAM 1500 ST LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok so I have a 02' ram 1500 4.7 and it sat
for about a year then I fired it up and it was
knocking. I thought it was a lifter since it
sat for so long but I took it to the shop and
they said they couldn't find anything wrong
with it l. Now it is soooo loud I thought I
might have spun a bearing but it's coming
from the front of the motor, by the hb. My
check engine light isn't on and my code
reader says cylinder #7 has a misfire but it
wouldn't sound like this have any of y'all
had this happen?

The "shop" couldn't find it? kinda strange. Get up close and listen to the Harmonic Balancer inspect it, look for a wobble action...called run out, it might be ready to separate. Fix the misfire on cylinder 7 and don't go back to that shop. Regards
