Transmission shifting wierd

Asked by y4farms Aug 01, 2016 at 11:38 AM about the 2000 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 dodge 1500 w/ 5.9 and automatic.  When the truck is cold it will shift into second then modulate between 3rd and overdrive until you punch It to get the rpm up to force the shift.  When the engine warms up it runs fine.  Any suggestions ?

Have you had it serviced at any time? Trans fluid and filter? May have a sticking valve in the valve body or a sticky shift solenoid in the solenoid pack, could even be a sensor issue. A good shop with diagnostic equip. can reveal a solenoid or sensor issue.

Yes, we changed out the filter and fluid about 3500 miles ago and this just recently started up. thanks

I really need help on this issue. I am wondering If I need to rebuild the tranny or if it is something much more simple?

@KenF, You are correct, my 2004 Durango started out randomly about once a month having this issue. The shift control solenoid pack solved the problem.
