Asked by ColemanMartin Feb 20, 2015 at 06:21 PM about the 1999 Dodge RAM 1500 ST LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When it's cold I can put it in gear and
drive it about 100 yards then it will
feel like it goes into neutral.. But I
can let it cool down then it will go
again for a little ways.. I feel like it's
something simple. Like linkage or a
sensor , there is no grinding or
popping. It's like it's thinking it's in
neutral when it's in drive.. If any can
help please let me know

Same exact issue on 99 5.9, but can go 2 miles, then no response. Let it sit over night and drives a little bit again. Just replaced shift solenoid and gov. pressure solenoid. No fix yet. Have you recently dropped the pan as well? Im hoping, like you are, that its something simple.

I had it serviced the day before and they said my filter was stopped up so I said okay and then drove it home and drove it the next morning but then my neutral safety switch went out and then it stopped pulling.. When it's cold it will pull but then will stopping pull in 4x4 either, almost thinkin it's a vaccum hose or something like that PLEASE HELP!!
