99 Dodge Ram 1500 transmission/transfercase

Asked by Shane Jan 01, 2018 at 07:18 AM about the 1999 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT Club Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 99 Dodge Ram 1500 360 in it automatic. When I
would put it in gear it would make a real bad
grinding noise. I couldn't hear where it was coming
from. Check all the ujoints. When I would go down
the road it'd sound like something slappin the t
case. Before I stoped driving it wouldnt want to go,
like the I'd press the gas and it wouldn't want to
pull, it'd do that and then go back to Normal kept
doing it. So took the t case and opened it and
nothing was wrong with it. Could anyone else give
me any ideas!?!?

Does it do it in 2WD mode? Have you checked the fluid level n the tranny? If fluid level good, smell it, does it smell burnt or look black-ish? So many things can cause grinding noise. Jack up rear wheels of PU, start 'er up, put her n gear n try to isolate the noise. So many things n a tranny that can cause this kinda noise n symptom.

Fluid and stuff look and smells good. T-case had some shavings in it. And I haven't checked the rear end but it was just replace right before I got it

And I got the tease out and I put it in gear no more noise but there's no stress on the transmission.
