position of transfer case during normal 2WD operation

Asked by congored Nov 12, 2013 at 05:19 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500 ST Club Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

appears to remain in 4wd even after transfer case is set to 2H.
Tried selecting all options (2H, 4H, N, & 4L) to return transfer case back to normal.
Selected neutral on AT and selected each of the above options independently and tried returning to drive with loud grinding noise. same issue when trying to select reverse. Immediately returned AT to neutral and had to turn engine off to return AT to park.
