We have a 2001 S-10 pickup and it won't back up.

It seems to run fine when going forward, but it won't back up.

When a trans starts to go it starts at he lowest gear which is reverse. If it was me I would jack up rear and see if wheels try to turn with no load. If they don't it could be a stuck valve body. If they do try to turn then Yes your clutches are gone.
