Asked by john_barneck_123 Apr 19, 2014 at 05:19 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet S-10 LS Wide Stance Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been trying to buy parts for my 99 s-10 4x4 truck ,but the guy at the parts counter keeps asking if my truck is a wide stance or not ,even after I give them the vin number. so my question is how do I tell if mine is or isn't a wide stance ? I bought it used so no obvious stickers/labeling on the body that tells me its a wide stance or zr2 model.     just like in the related selection below this in your submit question box on here.. no separate box for a  4x4 extended cab without the wide stance package.

if that is a picture of your truck then it is a zr2. ZR2's have the wide fender flares and come factory with 31's. They sit higher than a factory s10 4x4. And have a stiffer frame

I know I know I am being a stickler/really picky for a answer, but I don't want to buy parts then have to return them especially if I have to pay for shipping to return them (plus a 15 percent restocking fee). : ) or get the truck taken apart only too then find out I don't have the right part or can not get the right part from a local autoparts b+m store. thanks for your help tracking down the right answers. later

Got a question my buddy has a 95 s10 and the sticker inside the glove box has zr2 at the bottom, now does that mean that it is a zr2 or is that sticker just different codes for s10? And how would you go about finding out for sure, like would the vin# be slightly different than a base s10?

If the glove box is original then it's a zr2. It's easy to identify a zr2. Flares, 31's are the factory tire size, the axles are 3 inches wider so they wheels fill out the flares. Otherwise they would look really sunken in. And the front of the rear leaf spring mount is dropped a few inches.

Do you tell if the s 10 is an LS. by the glove box as well? Looks like the LS models would have more room for passengers in back

Frank, look on the sticker in your glove box for the code YC3... that indicates LS trim
