Why does my 2006 Ford F-150 Lariat stalls if I don't drive slowly?

Asked by laurenv Mar 13, 2012 at 05:30 PM about the 2006 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck stalls often if I don't drive slowly.  I maintain it at the Ford dealership.  Recently, I was told that it would cost $1300 to remove the engine and diagnose the problem only.  I live in rural Arkansas.  Why does this happen and what should it cost to fix it?  Is Ford responsible and won't fix it? What should I do?

A dealership told you that!!!!!??? The engine had to be removed!!!!!!????? You have a fuel system problem or an electrical problem. All of which are bolted onto the exterior of the engine. FIND ANOTHER DEALERSHIP.

i would tend to agree. a simple fuel pressure check would be a lot easier in the truck with the motor still in, for 1300 you could have a real nice gauge to check a weak pump out or a new fuel filter to boot. up north we can get water in the gas, it will get in the system and starve it of gas, ethanol has helped with this but you can still occasionally get bad gas with water in it. a bottle HEET-isopropahol alcohol will absorb the water and solve the problem most of the time. Places like california would have you taking the gas tank off and getting bent where a $2 bottle of heet would fix it. it wont hurt anything to try.

I agree, find another dealership .... those guys are nuts to say that they need to remove the engine. they're looking to rob you blind. I also agree it's a fuel system issue ( try a new fuel filter), sounds like it's not getting enough fuel & you have a partially plugged fuel filter.
